GEORGE R. ALLEN DEXTER - George R. Allen Sr., 62, resident of Garland Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at a Bangor hospital, after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 4, 1947, in Lowell, Mass., a son of David J. Allen Sr. and Claire J. (Plante) Allen. He was educated in Lisbon schools and graduated from Lisbon High School, Class of 1965. Mr. Allen received his associate degree from the University of Maine, Augusta, and received his bachelor’s of rehabilitation degree from the University of Maine, Farmington. He was employed for several years as a substance abuse counselor. George was involved with Alcoholics Anonymous and would have received his 30-year chip in March 2011. He was an active member of Maine Patriots and 9-12 Patriots for Action. George was an avid sportsman who loved hunting deer, bear and moose. He enjoyed fishing; fly-tying was also a hobby of his. He was an accomplished woodcarver, painter and a wonderful cake decorator. He also enjoyed cooking for his family. Most of all, George loved his wife very much and was devoted to spending free time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, David J. Allen Jr., in 1991, and Ricky Allen, in 1978. Survivors include his wife of 13 years, June A. (Norris) Allen of Dexter; a son, George A. Allen Jr. and his wife, Shannon, of Lisbon Falls; two daughters, Jennifer and her partner, Jessica Mallory, of Lisbon and Justine LaFlamme and her partner, Ryan LaGrange, of Sabattus; a brother, Donald Allen Sr. of Pownal; two sisters, Carol Bordeleau of Dracut, Mass., and Diane J. Hughes of Lisbon Falls; and three grandchildren, Richard Thomas Allen, Emily Marie Allen and Keira Jade LaGrange. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at Crosman Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Lisbon Falls, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, with the Rev. Pauline Powell, of Pathways Vineyard Fellowship, officiating. Interment will be afterward at Lisbon Cemetery, Lisbon.
