Obituary
ROBERT L. GIRARD DEXTER, Robert L. Girard, 68, died February 10, 2009, at EMMC in Bangor after a long battle with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. He was born June 18, 1940, in Concord, NH the son of Eddie and Beatrice (Garland) Girard and graduated from Penacook High School in 1958 as president of his class. He served in the US Air Force, which brought him to Biloxi, MS where he met Rita in Louisiana, whom he married on June 8, 1963, then to Las Vegas, NV, and finally to settle in Maine. In 1970, he went to work for Fayscott Company as an Electrical Engineer and remained a loyal employee until his retirement in 2003. After his retirement, he could be found working at the Dexter Municipal Golf course as a groundskeeper and maintenance man. Bob was a past Grand Knight and Honorary Member of the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Mercier Council 2625. He volunteered much of his time over the years to many KofC causes such as Operation Wheelchair at Togus VA Hospital, Friday night BEANO, chair of the KofC Scholarship Committee and service to St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Bob will be first and foremost remembered for his ability to fix anything, which he would selflessly do for anyone who needed his help. Whether it was an engine, an appliance, a toy or a tool, from carpentry to plumbing and especially anything electrical, Bob was the man to call. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rita (Clark) and his mother-in-law, Corinne Clark of Denham Springs, LA; his five daughters and their families; Belinda Hobbs of East Millinocket and granddaughter Tricia; Deborah Terrio, her husband Jeffrey of Hudson, NH, and grandchildren Taylor, Tiffany and Travis; Sandra Emerson of Dexter and grandson Kyle, and step-grandson Brandon; Amanda Bourgeois and her husband Terry of Buffalo, NY; Jessica Caron and husband Christopher of Hudson, NH; his sister Nancy Young and her husband Bob of Loudon, NH; sister-in-law Rosanne Girard of Wichita, KS, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Eddie Girard. His family wishes to thank Dr. David McDermott, Dr. Daniel Cassidy, Dr. Marshal Kaplan, Tufts Medical Center in Boston and staff for their expert and compassionate care over so many years, and the numerous doctors and nurses at St. Joseph Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center for the last few weeks. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, Sunday, February 15th, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 AM, Monday, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. Fr. Mark Nolette. Burial will be at 1 PM Tuesday, at the New Hampshire State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. The family requests no flowers.
