STEPHEN ARNOLD SAWYER DEXTER – Stephen Arnold Sawyer, 49, passed away March 20, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born March 14, 1960 in Dexter a son of Arnold and Glenda (York) Sawyer. He graduated from Dexter Regional High School, Class of 1978. He was employed for 18 years at Dexter Shoe Company and later, was employed at Toot’s Delicatessen until his retirement due to failing health. Steve will be remembered as an avid Boston Red Sox fan, enjoyed coaching Little League in Dexter, as well as serving as timekeeper for high school soccer games for a number of years. He married the former Heidi Fanjoy. In addition to his wife of Dexter and parents of Harmony, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Carolyn Reed of Harmony; 2 sons, Tyler of Bangor, and Chad of Dexter; a brother, Vincent and wife Tina of Dexter; and a sister, Karen and husband Richard Andrews of Gorham; 2 nephews, Derek and Mitchell, and a niece, Avery. His family remembers him as a great dad that courageously battled his illness, especially in recent months as his condition worsened after surviving a lung transplant for nearly 3 years. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, March 24th, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A spring graveside committal service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, with the Rev. William Walters officiating. Contributions may be made to the Stephen A. Sawyer Memorial Scholarship to benefit student athletes, c/o Dexter Regional High School, 12 Abbott Hill Road, Dexter, ME 04930.
