CHARLES P. TREMBLAY JR. DEXTER AND NEWPORT- Charles P. Tremblay Jr., 79, died May 26, 2009 at a Pittsfield hospital after a brief illness. He was born February 14, 1930 in Dexter, a son of Charles P. Tremblay Sr. and Vera (Harris) Tremblay. He attended Dexter schools and graduated from NH Fay High School in 1949. He attended St. Anslem College in Manchester, N.H. He was drafted into the Korean War, attended the Chemical & Nuclear Warfare School in Japan before serving two years as a Frontline Combat Medic receiving rank of Master Sergeant before his discharge. He then attended and graduated from New England Institute of Anatomy in Boston. After working several years in the funeral business, a war-related illness caused him to retire. He then worked at Dexter Shoe Co. for 33 years as a return shoe foreman. Upon his retirement, Charlie was a big part of two family businesses and will be fondly remembered as “Buttons” the Clown at Noah’s Ark Animal Park and all the kids called him the “bus dude” at Learning Is Fun childcare. He was a member and 4th Degree Knight of the Dexter Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the VFW. He was a charter board member of the Dexter Federal Credit Union. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betsy “Betty” Tremblay, whom he married on Nov. 18, 1955; their son Michael and wife, Tina; and two granddaughters, Darci and Hali, all of Newport. He is also survived by a dear and faithful friend, John Salley of Dexter. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Robert, and his sister, Marilyn. Friends and family may call Friday, May 29, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, May 30, 2009, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
