DEXTER- George E. Burns, 89, died August 16, 2009, at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. He was born in Shirley, June 16 1920, son of Harry and Ruby (Smith) Burns. George served in the US Army during WW II, and then worked as a lumberjack for most of his life. After retiring, he did volunteer work with "Meals for ME". George was very active with the Cambridge Baptist Church and served as both Deacon & Sunday School teacher. Reading and studying the Gospel was a true passion to the end of his life. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Thelma, his wife of 36 years, and by his sister Maud Ronco, who passed away in 2008. George is survived by his children & their spouses, Barry & Jan Chadbourne of Port Townsend, WA, and Anna & Chuck Mollenkopf of Ivins, UT; 5 Grandchildren, Ann Marie, Jerrod, Kari, Gaynelle & Lori; 6 Great grandchildren; a niece, Nancy Henry of East Hartford, CT. George also leaves many dear friends in Cambridge & Dexter. And how he loved to talk with friends and family all around the US. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, August 21st at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, August 22nd at the Cambridge Baptist Church in Cambridge, with Pastor Bill Inman officiating.
