Obituary
AMASA C. TITCOMB The death here of Amasa C. Titcomb, prominent Dexter dry goods merchant and lumberman, was received with both sorrow and regret from his many townspeople and associates. Born in Levant Sept. 3rd, 1880, he attended schools there, and East Corinth Academy, later taking a course in a Bangor Business College. About this time the firm of A. C. Titcomb & Co. was formed and he entered the grocery business in East Corinth. Ever with the idea of bigger and better business, he formed contacts in various directions. H was always interested in local affairs, especially those connected with the schools, serving on variours boards and committees. After a disastrous fire which destroyed buildings and stock, he changed his location to Dexter. Here her opened a dry goods and garment store in the block which he later purchased. Mr. Titcomb has always been interested in other endeavors, and now realizing an ambition of young manhood, he assumed control of the so called Hamilton Ranch in Garland. The different types of agriculture and lumbering have been his chief interest in recent years, giving generously of his personal attention so long as his health culminated in an intestinal disorder which cause his death in a Bangor Hospital, Saturday. In 1904 he married Miss Serena May Trickey of East Corinth who survives. He also leaves five daughters and two sons – Beatrice, a Bates College graduate and a teacher in Garland High School; Mrs. Avis Williams, who is associated with her mother in the garment business; Gertrude in Dexter High School; Marion and Barbara, in lower grades. Carl, a sophomore at University of Maine, and Franklin, located with his father at the Garland farm home, also a uncle, Amasa C. Titcomb, resides in Carmel; a brother, Marshall and a sister, Mrs. George Worthen, in Levant. Mr. Titcomb was a member of the DeMolay commandery of Skowhegan, the Royal Arch Chapter in Dexter and Olive Branch Lodge of Masons in Charleston. Funeral services will be held in the Methodist Episcopal church at East Corinth, Tuesday at 1:30 o’clock, the Rev. Mr. Pelley officiating in connection with the Masonic burial service by the officers of Alive Branch Lodge. Interment will be in Corinthian cemetery at East Corinth.
