M. G. Otto, Noted Spud Broker, Dies DEXTER — Millard G. Otto, 67, a leading citizen of Dexter and prominent potato processor,’ died at a Bangor hospital Sunday’ morning after an illness of about two months. He was born at Atlanta, N. Y-June 29, 1894, the son of W.E. and Francis W. Otto.World War Veteran He was educated In the Atlanta public schools and at the University of Michigan. During World War I he served two years in the Army in France, being discharged in 1919 as a lieutenant in the Supply Corps. On returning to civilian life he became associated with his father in the potato brokerage business and was located at Dexter. There he subsequently formed and operated his own company, the Otto Produce Company, with potato houses located in Dexter, Corinna and East Newport. For some years he was a member of the Maine Potato Commission, serving as its president for 12 years and at the time of his death as its consultant. In 1959 and 1960 he served as state director for Maine of the Farmers Home Administration with headquarters at Bangor. Former State Representative Mr. Otto was long active in public life as a Republican, having served two terms as a Rep- resentative in the Maine Legislature with membership on important committees. He had served as a Dexter Selectman and at his death was a member of the. Board of Assessors and the Finance Committee. He was a member of all Masonic bodies, the American Legion, the Dexter Club and local organizations. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, N.Y. and was a deacon of the Universalist Church of Dexter. Mr. Otto was a former president of the Plummer Memorial Hospital Board and was currently serving as chairman of the house and grounds committee. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Marjorie (Foss) Otto; a ‘son, William Knight Otto of Dexter; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Graves of Orono; a brother, Harry W. Otto of Naples, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. DEXTER—Funeral services for Millard G: Otto were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Universalist Church here with the Rev. E. King Hempel, pastor, officiating. Active bearers were Donald D. Champeon, Norman F. Plouff,. Frederick J. Quigley and Paul W. Johnson, all of Dexter; Charles H. Ansell of Gorham and Eugene Welch of Corinna. Honorary bearers were Nathan C. Buckman, B. L. Call, Reynold F. Thompson and Dr. L. E. Kel. ley, all of Dexter; Carl E. Smith of Newport and Donald Umphrey of Presque Isle. Amon those attending the funeral were representatives of the Farmers Home Administration, Maine Potato Commission, Masonic orders, and the Poulliot-Seavey American Legion Post of Dexter. Spring burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Service Wednesday Funeral services will be held at the Dexter Universalist Church Wednesday at 2 p.m.
