Obituary
JOYCE JONES CROSBY DEXTER and AUGUSTA Joyce Jones Crosby, 83, died on December 16, 2012 after a short illness. A native of Rutherford, NJ, Joyce attended Rutherford schools, then Adelphi University, where she majored in Home Ec. After graduation, she worked at the New York Herald Tribune, where she tested recipes for the colorful cookbook editor, Clementine Paddleford. In New York, she met and married David Crosby and moved to Dexter, Maine, where she made her closest C friends. After many moves and career changes, she and David 1 moved to Augusta and ran Crosby’s Bed and Breakfast for many years. When the 24/7 lifestyle became too hard, they sold the B&B last and worked for the State of Maine until their retirement. Joyce was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and knitter. Her one-of-a-kind Christmas stockings are treasured by family and friends. She also loved to read, garden, bake, and watch FOX news to stay up he to date with conservative causes. She was a master of confounding and devious crossword puzzles. She was pre-deceased by her husband David, and her sisters Carol Gregory and Betty Lou Webb. She is survived by her son, Mark, of Augusta; her daughter, Ann Chase-Karel and her husband Avram Karel of White Plains,NY; her grandsons, Elliot and Evan Chase; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta Maine 04330 or the Lithgow Public Library, 45 Winthrop St., Augusta, Maine (Att’n: Elizabeth Pohl.) At her request there was no funeral, but a Celebration of her Life will be held in Dexter in July.
