Obituary
Josephine B. Gilbert DEXTER- Josephine B. Gilbert, 91, died October 1, 2012, at the Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, the late Gerald A. Gilbert of Dexter. Josephine was born August 25, 1921, at Atkinson and was the younger of two, and last surviving child, of Edwin and Elizabeth (Witham) Broeg. Josephine lived most of her childhood in Dover-Foxcroft and was a 1940 graduate of Foxcroft Academy. Following her marriage to Gerald in 1944, she lived in Dexter. During her younger years, she worked in the local woolen mills in Dover-Foxcroft and Dexter. After her marriage, she focused much of her attention on raising her two children. She developed an interest in sewing and became highly adept as a seamstress, tailoring and sewing clothes and costumes. She enjoyed quilting, knitting and other craft projects. Josephine was a communicant of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Parish in Dexter and Dover-Foxcroft. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Dexter. She is survived by her two children; a son Richard and his wife, Carolyn of Dexter; daughter Norma Leclair and her husband, Steven of Gray; grandsons, Shane Gilbert of Auburn and Chad Gilbert of Whitefield; a great-grandson, Benjamin Gilbert of Whitefield; a surviving sister-in-law, Gladys Gilbert of Dexter; as well as several nieces and nephews living in Dexter, throughout Maine, and all along the east coast. During her later years, she has been particularly fond of her close circle of friends at the Log Cabin and St. Anne’s Catholic Church Sunday dinners, both in Dexter. Josephine’s family would like to thank the staff at Hibbard Nursing Home for the love and care that she received. Their kindness toward Josephine was displayed through gentle interactions with her and their many efforts to help her feel comfortable. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012, at 11 AM, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter, with Deacon David Denbow officiating. A committal will follow the memorial service at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
