William R. Novak, Sr. DEXTER – William R. Novak, Sr., 83, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 8, 1929 in Egypt, Pennsylvania, a son of Andrew and Susanna Novak. William graduated from Whitehall High School, Hockendaqua, PA, Class of 1947, and attended the University of Virginia. He served honorably in the U. S. Navy with a tour of duty on Adak in the Aleutian Islands. William worked for the U. S. government for 36 years with the National Security Agency and the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington D.C. He was a communicant of St. Anne’s Church, Our Lady of The Snows Parish, and a member of Cardinal Mercer Knights of Columbus, Dexter, a Past Grand Knight of Holy Family Council, Silver Spring Maryland, and was a member of the 4th Degree. He also was a member of the Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis. He volunteered his time coaching and working in many capacities with children and teenagers over the years. He lived in Silver Spring, MD with his family during his tenure with the government and retired to Maine in 1986. In addition to his wife, Rita Clark Novak, whom he married 63 years ago; he is survived by his 4 children and their families, John and wife Bobbi of South Carolina, Catherine and her significant other, Rick Martell of Dexter, William Novak, Jr. and wife Traci of South Carolina, David and wife Katherine of Silver Spring, MD; a very special daughter in law, Bonnie Novak of Augusta; grandchildren, John Novak, Jr., David Spaulding and wife Mikee, all of West Gardiner, Joseph Spaulding of Derry, NH, Leanne, Valerie, and Allison Novak of Baltimore, MD, Melissa Novak of Virginia , Brittney Novak of South Carolina, and Hunter Novak of Waterville; a beloved sister, Sister Irene Novak, O.S.F.; and brothers Leonard and wife Susan of PA, Edward and wife Donna of California; 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Susan and her twin Emma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. Friday, February 22nd, at St. Anne’s Church, Free Street, Dexter, with the Rev. Fr. Kent Ouellette officiating. Arrangments are by Crosby & Neal, Dexter. Spring burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
