Vaughn W. Bunker Dexter people were shocked and grieved at the news, which was received Friday morning, that Vaughn W. Bunker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Bunker, had died in consequence of injuries received from falling beneath the wheels of a moving train, while employed at work connected with Boston & Maine railroad near Bellows Falls, Vt., Thursday. The young man had been working for, about three weeks with a crew who were putting in block signals along the line of the road, and at the time the accident happened was trying to board a passing train. In some way he missed his hold on the car and fell beneath the wheels which took off both legs. He also suffered injuries to the head. The train was at once stopped and he was removed to Bellows Falls, where surgical aid was had and that evening was hurried by a special train to Brattleboro, where there was a hospital, but died before reaching that place. The remains reached Dexter Saturday morning, accompanied by his father. Just a few days before, Mrs. Bunker had received a letter telling her of his plans to come home Saturday for the purpose of passing the Fourth of July in this town. The news of his death coming so quickly and unexpectedly was a terrible shock to Mrs. Bunker, who was preparing for her son's homecoming, and adds sadness to the case. Vaughn Bunker was a young man who was universally liked in this, town, where he made his home until several years ago. Of a sunny, happy disposition he made friends wherever he went, and his sad death came as a great shock to all those who had known him in this town. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the First Universalist church. The church was well filled with people who had gathered to pay respect to the memory of a young I man who was sincerely mourned. The bearers were Hugh Brewster, Raleigh Smart, David Brown and Fred Abbot. Music was furnished by Mrs. Flora Abbott and Mrs. N. E. Meigs with Mrs. Inez Blaisdell at the organ. The floral offerings were many in number and very beautiful. The officiating clergyman was Rev. S. G. Spear, Interment was at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. The bereaved parents have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire comunity.
