Matthias Thurston Friends of Matthias Thurston were shocked to learn of his death, which occurred at the home of his brother, Harry Thurston of this town, on Friday morning, Oct. 12th, from tubercular peritonitis at the age of 39 years. For the past four years Mr. Thurston has been employed as a traveling salesman by the Loose-Wiles Biscuit Company, the last year, being located in Dover, N. H., but on account of his health was obliged to give up his work last July, when he came with his family to Garland where they have since lived at the home of his wife's mother, Mrs. J. A. Haskell. The last of September, he submitted to an operation at the Plummer Memorial hospital. From there he was taken to his brother's home on Upper Main street, where he lived only a few days and where he was cared for by his wife and daughter, who survive him. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon :at 2 o'clock, Oct. 14 at the home of his brother, with the Rev. C. D. Hazelton, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. The bearers were George MoClure, Charles Wood, Prank Howard and Ralph Carleton. Interment was at the West Garland cemetery. Besides bis widow and daughter, he is survived by his parents, Mr, and Mrs. G. H. Thurston; two brothers, William and Harry Thurston of Dexter; and two sisters, Mrs. Darroll Burton of Dexter and Mrs. H. L. Forgett of Boston, Mass.
