COL. DONALD C, BLAKE DEXTER — Word has teen received here of the death of Col. Donald C. Blake, 60, a former native of Dexter, who died at Fort Bliss Hospital, El Paso, Texas, March 2. Col. Blake was born in Bridgewater, Mass., February 11,1912, the son of Mrs. Harry A. Blake of Dexter and the late Harry Blake. He graduated from Dexter High School and received his B. A. degree from the University of Maine, Orono in 1933. He had the grade of 2nd Lt. in ROTC. Called to active duty in 1934, he served as company commander in the Civilian Conservation Corps for three years. He was then employed as manager of the State of Maine Employment Service Office in Dover-Foxcroft. In 1940 he was recalled to active duty and during World War II he served as adjutant general in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, which included duty in the Philippines, Japan and, Korea. His next assignment was as assistant executive officer at New Orleans, Port of Embarkation, followed by an appointment as executive officer of the European Command Transportation Training Center in Germany. He has also served in Washington, D.C., Fort Munroe, Vt. and in Chicago. His last assignment before retiring in 1966 was as a member of the General's staff at Fort Bliss. He was a member of the Masonic Order. Survivors are his wife, Jean (Stewart) Blake of El Paso, where they made their home after retirement; his mother, Mrs. Lois (Thompson) Blake of Dexter; one brother, K. Stanford Blake of Portland. Funeral services were held at the Fort Bliss Chapel, El Paso and burial was in the Fort Bliss Cemetery.
