CHARLES E.DUSTIN DEXTER — Charles E. Dustin, 85, died Feb. 27 at a local hospital following a long illness. He was born in Dexter, Oct. 30, 1886, the son of Frank and ;Ella (Morse) Dustin. He was educated in Dexter schools and Dean Academy, Franklin, Mass. He was a member of the Class of 1910, Tufts College, Medford, Mass. For a while he was active in athletics representing the college in basketball and baseball. In 1916, he served with the 2nd Maine National Guard on the Texas border. In 1917, he entered the U.S. Army and served until 1919 with a commission as captain. He has been active in politics, serving under Governor Owen Brewster as state superintendent of buildings until 1929, He was on Gov. Brewster staff with an honorary title of colonel. He later joined the staff of the U.S. Bureau of Air Commerce in Washington, D.C. until his retirement in 1952. He was a member of Penobscot Masonic Lodge, Wassookeag Chapter OES, and a charter member Poulliot-Seavey Post American Legion all of Dexter. He was past-president of the Dexter Club. He was also a member of the First Universalist Church and had served as a member of its board of directors. He was both a charter and an honorary member of the Boneka Club of the church. He is survived by his wife, Frances (Gillette) Dustin of Dexter. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Crosby Neal Funeral Home in Dexter. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 3 and 7 to 8 p.m.
