MRS. DORRIS STEVENS Mrs. Dorris Stevens, widow of Elwood Stevens, died July 21 in an Augusta Nursing Home following a long illness. She was born in Dexter, June 21, 1896, daughter of Edwin A. and Elizabeth (Haseltine) Shepherd. She graduated from Dexter High school in the class of 1915 and from Farmington Normal School in 1917. She taught in Old Town, Garland, and Dexter Schools over a period off many years retiring in 1963. For many summers she held a private nursery school at her home on Beech st. She was a member of the local, State and National Teachers Associations; a 50-year member of Martha Washingiton Rebekah Lodge and had been active in the work of the Sunday School of the First Universalist Church of which she was a member. She was a charter member of the Boneka Clulb of the church. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Miriam) Gilbert of Farmington, three grandchildren, two cousins, Mrs. Wilford (Ruth) Slater and Reynold Thompson, of Dexter; and one nephew. Funeral services will be held at| 2 p. m. Saturday with the Rev. Robert W. Sterling of the First Universalist Church officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant, Cemetery.
