Obituary	Winfield Scott Brown, a former Dex- ter man, and prominent attorney of Mars Hill passed away at his home Tuesday night after a two years' ill- ness. Funeral services will be held in Mars Hill, Friday, with burial at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter Sat- urday afternoon with Masonsic com- mittal services at the grave June 6. Full Masonic honors were accorded Winfield S. Brown at his funeral which was held at his home in Mars Hill, Friday afternoon. Commital services were on Saturday in Dexter and interment in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Mr. Brown, long an active and prominent member of the Aroostook County Bar Association, died on Tues- day night in Mars Hill following a long illness. He was born in Blaine in 1868 one of a family of fifteen child- ren, four of whom survive. His early years were spent in Litchfield, where he attended the grade schools, later the Nichols Latin school in Lewiston, graduating from Bates College in 1895 and entering the teaching profession. During his college years he had taught in schools in Litchfield, Georgetown and Eastport and after his graduation he became principal of the Dexter High school and later superintendent of schools, which po- sition he held until 1905. In that year he received his degree of Bachelor of Laws from the Univer- sity of Maine. During the next six years he practiced his profession in Dexter where he was associated with Judge P. A. Hasty. In 1911 he moved to Mars Hill, continuing his practice of law. Besides his brothers and sisters, he leaves a widow, Mrs. Bertha Ryan Brown, a daughter, Mrs Cathrine Arnold King of Upper Montclair, N. J., a son, W. Scott Brown of Houl- ton, three grandchildren, Catherine and Winfield Scott Brown of Houlton and Ann Frances King of Upper Montclair.
