DENNIS M. LEWIA LUBEC and CATHANCE LAKE, COOPER - Dennis M. Lewia, 62, died unexpectedly March 4, 2008, at a Bangor hospital, after open-heart surgery. He was born Feb. 3, 1946, in Skowhegan, the son of Thomas J. and Claire (Macbride) Lewia. A graduate of Dexter High School, Class of 1964, Dennis joined the U.S. Navy in 1966, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a corpsman. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Unit Commendation Ribbon, Purple Heart and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Dennis attended the Mary Hitchcock School for Physician's Assistants, and was employed by Dr. Robert Macbride and Regional Medical Center, Lubec. He worked and cared for his patients for 38 years. He was married in 1975 to Maureen Sheehan of Lubec. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Maureen (Sheehan) Lewia; a son, Christopher Lewia; a daughter, Kerri-Ann Lewia-Molina and her husband, Mario; a grandson, Neil; one sister, Bridget Smith and her husband, Ivan; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Jackson and her husband, Cleveland; and a brother-in-law, Martin Sheehan and his wife, Diana. Also surviving are special nieces and nephews, Jennifer Lank and her husband, Ralph, Dan Jackson and his wife, Lindsay, Joey Jackson and his wife, Shauna, Megan and Emily Smith, Krystal Chung and her husband, Ken, and Danielle Sheehan; great-nieces and great-nephews; close friends, Tim and Kelley Ketchen, and Michael and Janice Wilson; friend and hunting buddy, John P. McCurdy; and the many friends from the medical center. He also leaves behind his canine companions, Tipper, Precious and Coopa. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Lubec, with Father Frank Morin, celebrant. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of Mass at the church. Burial will be after at West Ridge Cemetery, Cooper. Friends who wish may make donations in Dennis' memory to Regional Medical Center, 43 South Lubec Road, Lubec, ME 04652, a charity of your choice, or A.A. Quoddyhead Light Group, care of Lubec Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
