BERNICE C. FOSS DEXTER- Bernice C. Foss, 81, died February 7, 2008 at her home in Dexter. She was born in Guilford on September 8, 1926, the daughter of Ivan Foss and Hazel Stuart Foss, and step-daughter of Grace Chesley Foss. She was brought up on the Foss farm in Parkman, graduated from Guilford High School in 1944 and from Gordon College in 1948. Following college, she worked for one year as a home missionary with "Youth Home Missions" in Ohio and Michigan, and taught school for two years in Parkman. In 1951 she graduated from the Graduate School of Missions at Columbia Bible College with a Masters in Biblical Education. In January 1952 she was appointed by the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society to be a missionary in the Belgian Congo, Africa, where she served for thirty-six and a half years. Following her service in Africa, Bernice taught for fifteen years at the New England Bible College in South Portland. She retired to Dexter in 2003. During her battle with cancer which started in March 2005, Bernice wrote her memoirs "Great is Thy Faithfulness" which is available at www.amazon.com or www.borders.com. Bernice is survived by her siblings, Franklin Foss of Harmony, Beatrice Patterson of Dexter, Charles Foss and Mary Lou Redmond of Dover-Foxcroft. She is predeceased by two brothers, Philip and Gayland, and one sister, Marion Russell. Friends may call from 6 to 9 PM, Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 1st, at the Cambridge Baptist Church.
