Obituary
ELAINE R. SALLEY DEXTER- Elaine R. Salley, 70, passed away December 19, 2007, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital, after a period of declining health. A life long resident of Dexter, she was born April 23, 1937, the second child of Robert P.A. and Alma (Madore) Mayo. She attended Dexter schools, and was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church. She was married to John Salley in July of 1958, and moved into the house that they shared at the time of her death. During the 1950's she worked at a dairy bar on Main Street, and as a nurse's aid at Plummer Memorial Hospital. Elaine then worked for Dexter Shoe Company until the birth of her son in 1967, at which time she took some time off. She returned to Dexter Shoe on the night crew and stayed there until the night crew was shut down in 1980. John and Elaine purchased Dexter Flooring Shop which they operated for several years. Elaine also worked as an Avon representative for 25 years. Elaine was well known for her art of knitting, making many hats, mittens, scarves, and especially baby sweaters, hats and booties. She also enjoyed many summers, and bonfires at their camp on Wassookeag Lake. She is survived by her husband, John of Dexter; and her only son, Roger D. Salley and his longtime girlfriend, Kathy Leavitt, whom Elaine loved dearly, of Ellsworth; a sister, Mrs. Allan (Robertine) Gwynne of Roseville, CA; nieces, Sheryl Evans of Washington state, and Barbara Miyake of Missouri; her nephew, Richard Gwynne of California; lifetime friends, Charles and Betty Tremblay of Newport; and close neighbors, Stephan and Lorraine Wintle and family of Dexter. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. David McDermott and his staff and Dr. Tom Murray and the staff at Mayo Regional Hospital for the excellent care she received. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, December 21, 2007, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM, Saturday, December 22nd at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. Fr. James Robichaud officiating.
