Obituary
NORMA DARLENE (TREFETHEN) KARRAM EL CAJON, CA AND DEXTER, ME - Norma Darlene (Trefethen) Karram of El Cajon, CA, born November 10, 1948 in Dexter, ME to J. Winifred (Ellis) and Lyston A. Trefethen, then of Corinna, ME; died on July 1, 2007 in California after a long battle with breast cancer. Norma spent her early years on the Ridge Road in Corinna, Maine. She had great memories of the McKusick's, the Frost's, and her Grandpa & Grandma Trefethen's. Norma's family moved to Dexter prior to her starting school. They lived on three corners in Dexter: Main & Forest Streets, Forest & Maple Streets and almost at the corner of Maple and Pleasant Streets. She attended Pleasant Street School, NH Fay Junior High; and Dexter High School. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1967, exactly 40 after her father graduated from NH Fay High School. Norma spent many summers of her childhood attending Mechuwana (the Methodist Camp in Maine). In 1969, Norma worked clearing the original “village” with the “Dirty Dozen”. The memories of her times and friends at Mechuwana have been precious. Norma attended the University of Maine, spent time in Mississippi and Kansas City before returning to Maine and graduating from UMO in May 1973. Norma's love of and addiction to libraries began at the age of 7 when she got a library card at Abbott Memorial Library in Dexter, ME. It continues through working at Fogler Library at UMO, the Library of Michigan and the University of California San Diego Library in California. To the UCSD library camping group and other loved co-workers and patrons of the library: Thanks for the memories. While in Michigan, Norma met and married Bishara S. Karram in July 1976. Their children are sons; Tuhan B. Karram, born in Flint, MI and Rabeah B. Karram, born Nazareth, Israel and daughter, Reham B Karram, born Nazareth, Israel. Norma is also survived by her sister, Lonna D. (Trefethen) Seguin and her husband, Charles of Bangor, ME and their family; Andrew P. Seguin and his wife, Michele R. Decker of Somerville, MA and Timothy A Seguin, of Davie, FL. She is also survived by her mother's two brothers and their extended families: S. Blake and Edna May Ellis of Brunswick, ME and Dean G. and Lorraine Ellis, of Newmarket, NH, and by Bishara's family of 9 brothers, 2 sisters and extended families in Israel. A funeral service was held in Friday, July 6, 2007 in El Cajon, CA with Burial at Singing Hills Memorial Park also in El Cajon. A Memorial Service will be held on July 15 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex Street, Bangor, ME. In lieu of flowers Norma wishes you to make gifts in her memory: Mechuwana, PO Box 277, Winthrop, ME 04364
