EDITH PALMER STONE GARLAND – Edith Palmer Stone, 79, died peacefully at her West Garland residence May 5, 2007. She was born January 3, 1928 in Exeter a daughter of Lester and Vera (Simpson) Palmer. She attended Exeter schools and was a graduate of Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1946. Edie was a member of the Poulliot-Seavey Post #53 American Legion in Dexter and was a member of the Exeter Historical Society. She taught school in Garland and was one of only a few women beaver trappers. Edie served many years on the board and actively participated with programs at The Little Red Schoolhouse in Dover-Foxcroft for over twenty five years. She and her husband Lee were also longtime supporters of the Special Olympics programs. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother. Edith retired as Garland Town Manager, and was a past member of the Maine Municipal Association. Edie was predeceased by her husband, R. Lee Stone on December 13, 2006. She is survived by two daughters, Joanne and husband Peter Prescott of Dexter, and Jayne Stone of Garland; a grand daughter, Sarah and husband Brian Mills of Waterboro; two brothers, Carl and wife Loraine Palmer of Exeter, and the Rev. John Palmer of Washburn; a sister, Evelyn (Palmer) Lawrence of Pittsfield; a brother in law, Paul Stone of Exeter; a niece, several nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Monday, May 7th, at the Garland Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Brennan officiating. Friends may call at the church from 12:30 until the time of services. Following the funeral, a committal service for Edie will be held jointly with the military committal for her husband Lee at 2:30 PM at the West Garland Cemetery.
