Obituary
Dexter Mother Despondent, Ends Her life. Mrs. Jessie Gilbert Chevery, 32, wife of Irvin Chevery, ended her life shortly before two 'o'clock Saturday morning by shooting herself through the head in the lavatory at Dubay's restaurant on Church street. Despon- dency was apparently the reason for the act, according to two notes found in her stockings. Medical Examiner Dr. H. E. Whalen and Deputy Sheriff C. F. D. Marsh pronounced her death as suicide. One of the notes was to her hus- band, and the other, to her children, a boy and a girl, bidding them. good- bye, and indicating that the ups and downs of life were too much for her to face. Mrs. Chevery purchased a .32 re- volver at the store of Bucknam & Mountain, shortly before six o’clock Friday night, saying at the time that there were prowlers about their home and that she feared to stay alone nights with her children. Her hus- band had recently gone to Fairfield, to work in a woolen mill. She had left the children Friday night with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Gilbert, at their home on Forest street. Besides her husband she leaves a son, Wayne, l8, and a daughter Ro- mona, eight; her parents; five broth- ers and two sisters, all of Dexter. Funeral services were held Monday forenoon at the home of her sister, Mrs. Irene Dyer on Railroad avenue.
