AUGUSTA - Mrs. Gladys M. Shields, 75, died May 30, at the Augusta General Hospital. She was born August 1,1904 in Garland the daughter of Arthur L. and Harriette Saw- yer Jackson. She was a graduate of Dexter High School, Class of 1923. She married Lloyd Shields August 2, 1925, and were residents of Dexter, coining to Augusta several years ago. Mrs. Shie- lds was an honorary member. of Martha Washington Rebe- kah Lodge, Dexter, Past pre- sident, Wiltona Club of Wilton, a member of the Franklin County Farm Bureau, a former Deaconess and Sunday School teacher of the First Congre- gational Church of Wilton. She was a member of Penney Memorial United Baptist Chu- rch, past president of Grace Missionary Guild, past presid- ent and secretary of the Women's Missionary Society, former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Senior Citizens Galbraith Group of the church. She was past president and secretary of the Riverside Extension; She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Shields, a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Pris- cilla) Redman both of Augusta, four sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Jackson of Merritt Island, Fla. Mrs. Esther Swanton, West Buxton, Mrs. Helen Brown, Bangor, Mrs. Clara Patterson of Dover-Foxcroft, two bro- thers, Lewis Jackson of San- gerviUe, Galen Jackson of Citrus Heights, Calif., three grandchildren, one great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held June 2 at the Penney Memor- ial United Baptist Church, Grave St. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. The Rev. Alton Maxell offici- ated.
