Obituary
Joseph P. Rand Dies Suddenly Joseph P. Rand, 59, died suddenly Tuesday evening at his home on Cedar street after several years of ill health. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p. m. at the First Universalist Church with the Rev. J. Robert Bath officiating. There will also be a Masonic service. Bearers will be fellow Kiwanians. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. He was born in Dexter, March 14, 1894, son of the late Frank and Carrie Holt Rand. He was educated in the local schools and was a graduate of Dexter High School. For about two years Mr. Rand was a city mail carrier. For over 30 years he has been a special agent of the New York Life Insurance Company, maintaining offices on Main street and more recently at his home. He was awarded several certificates and trips to conventions which were offered by his company. He had served on the school board, was active in Boy Scout work, and was instrumental in organizing the Dexter Kiwanis Club serving as its first president and at the time of his death was on the board of directors. Mr. Rand was a member of the First Universalist Church. He had held membership in all branches of the Masonic lodge, but due to ill health had withdrawn from all except Penobscot Lodge 65, A. F. & A. M., of which he was a past master. He had been very active in dramatic work in the town and was a member of the Favor-Haines Comedy Company. He is survived by his wife, Mabel; two sons, Robert of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Vernon of Washington, D. C., one grandson, a niece and a nephew. note: photo accompanied article
