WILLIAM R. SPENCER William R. Spencer, 78, died at a Fort Pierce, Florida, hospital Sunday, March 28, after a brief illness. He wais born in Argyle, Maine, Sept. 25, 1893, the son of the late Walter and Inez Do w Spencer. He graduated from N.H. Fay School, Dexter in 1911 and later from Shaw Business College, Ban- gor. For over 50 years he was accountant and acting treasurer .for the Fay and Scott Machine Shop and later for Fayscott-Landis Machine Corporation until his re- tirement in 1966. iHe was past president of the Dexter Club; past president of the Dexter High School Alumni Asso- ciation; a member of .the First Universalist Church; Penobscot Masonic Lodge and St.John’s Chapter Royal Arch Masons of D e x t e r; DaMolay Commandry Knights Templar of Skowhegan; Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor and the TriCounty Shrine Club. He was much interested in athletic sports and an ardent hunter and fisherman. He had spent the last 10 winters at his winter home in Fort Pierce, Fla., where he participated in man- agement and programming of ac- tivites at .Whispering Creek Vil- Iage. He is survived by his wife, Ma- bel Ames Spencer of Dexter and Florida; one daughter, Mrs. Le- roy (Barbara) Howland of Lexing- ton, Mass. and one grandson, Tho- mas Howland who is with the U.S. Navy in Memphis, Tenn. Funeral services will be this af- ternoon (Thursday) at 2 o'clock at the Crosby Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Sterling of the .First Universalist church officiating. Spring burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
