BERNARD POOLER Bernard Pooler, 59, a former Dexter resident, died suddenly Fri- day at Colon, Mich., of a heart ailment. He was born at Dexter, January 4, 1904, the son of Augustus and Sadie (Pooler) Pooler. Mr. Pooler, a member of the Michigan Press Association and the National Editorial Association, was editor-publisher of the Colon Express from 1955 until 1962 when he sold the paper to go into semi- retirement. Since that time he had been associated with the Abbott Magic Co., working in the com- pany's publication department. He was born in Dexter, Me., on Jan. 4, 1904, a son of Augustus and Sadie (pooler) Pcoler. He re- ceived his basic education in the Dexter Schools and then attended the Northwest School of Journa- lism, Chicago, where he prepared for newspaper publication. On June 10, 1935 he was joined in wedlock to Simone Landry, at Dexter, who encouraged his first venture into newspaper publishing when he founded the Bucksport Free Press, Bucksport, Me., in l940. He served as editor and publisher of that paper until 1952 when he sold the business and moved to Arizona for reasons of health. In 1955, he and his family moved to Colon where he purchas- ed the Colon Express. He had been a member of several local service clubs until business pressures forc- ed his resignations. Survivors are his widew, Mrs. Simone (Landry) Pooler, formerly of Dexter, now of Colon, Mich.; one son, John of Michigan; one daughter, Margaret, of Michigan; one sister, Mrs. Geneva Dyer of Dexter; one brother, Francis Pool- er of West Leb
