MYRTLE (SEAVEY) KNOWLES DEXTER – Myrtle (Seavey) Knowles, 92, died January 12, 2007 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born May 13, 1914 at Exeter a daughter of James and Charlotte (Howard) Seavey. She attended schools in Dexter and Corinna. On September 24, 1932 she married John H. Knowles and they lived in Corinna until 1938, when they bought their home in Dexter, where they resided for the rest of their lives. John predeceased her December 22, 1988. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by sisters, Amber Hutchins, Leona Brawn, Thelma Ackland and Barbara Sanders; brothers, Howard, Leon, Calvin, William and Myron Seavey. Myrtle is survived by one son, James and wife Jacqueline of Dexter; grandsons, Richard and wife Pauline of Searsport, David and wife Roxanne of Durham; great grandchildren, Adam and Stephen of Akron, Ohio, Renee of Searsport, Kira and Kevin of Durham. Myrtle worked at Snowflake Freezing Plant in Corinna, as a clerk in Koritsky’s Department Store, and the Dexter United Store, and then as manager in 1969. She was manager of the Reny’s Department Store in Dexter until her retirement in 1986. She was a life member of the Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge, served as Past Noble Grand, Past District Deputy, and was awarded the Decoration of Chivalry. At the time of her death, Myrtle was a member of the Cleora Rebekah Lodge in Corinna, Rebekah Past Noble Grands Club, a life member of Chiquita Temple Pythian Sisters, a member of the Dexter United Methodist Church, and the Shirley B. Carter Post Auxiliary # 4298. Myrtle was past president of the Golden Age Club, honorary member of the Dexter Sunshine Club, a member and Past Matron of Sunset Chapter, Order of The Eastern Star. At her request, there will be no viewing or services at this time. A graveside committal service will be scheduled in the spring at the family lot, Corinna Center Cemetery, with Pastor Lois Field officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Dexter.
