Services Friday For Pfc. Clarence Gilbert A full military service will be held for Pfc. Clarence J. Gilbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gilbert, Friday morning at St. Anne's Cath- olic Church at 9 a. m. The Rev. C. J. Enright of Dexter and the Rev. Leonard LeClair of Togus will officiate. Pfc. Gilbert was killed in action on Sept. 8, 1950, in South Korea. Members of the American Le- gion Auxiliary are requested to meet at St. Anne's Catholic Church Friday morning, 8:45 a. m. to at- tend the funeral mass. Places of business in Dexter will be closed Friday morning between 9 and 10 o'clock during the hour of the service. Members of the military escort from Newport Wednesday morning were Charles F. Haines, Frederic Hale, Neilan Chevery and Luther Nichols. Commander Scott Harrington of Poulliot-Seavey Post No. 53, Am- erican Legion will be in charge services at the cemetery, assisted by the Post chaplain, Arthur Covel, the Legion firing squad, color guard and color bearers. Bearers will be two brothers of the deceased, Douglas and Roger Gilbert, Dexter; and four cousins, Maurice Clukey, Gerald Gilbert, both of Dexter; Edward Gilbert of Guilford, and Norman Gilbert of Eagle Lake. All are veterans of World War II. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. The following is an excerpt tak- en from the letter received by Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gilbert, from Headquarters 7th Cavalry Regi- ment on April 26, 195l, informing them of the death of their son: "It was in the early morning on 8 September, that the Communists attacked our positions. Unfortu- nately, Clarence fel1, a victim of enemy fire while administering medical aid to his fallen comrades. "Thus, a brave and gallant soldier gave his life in the fight for human rights and liberties. His name has been added to the list of Honored Dead of the 7th Cavalry Regiment. May this thought be of some as- sistance to you in bearing the great burden of your sorrow."
