Obituary
NELSON W. CLUKEY DEXTER—Nelson W. Clukey, 84, passed away quietly April 7, 2006 at Dexter Health Care where he had been a resident for only 3 weeks. Rita, his loving wife of 57 years was by his side. He was born May 20, 1921 at Dexter, a son of Joseph and Annie (Clukey) Clukey. He attended the old schoolhouse in Garland. Nelson served in the U. S. Air Force during WWII for 3 years, 11 months, and 7 days – a fact he could proudly recall until his death, even though his short-term memory had faded. On September 4, 1948, he married Rita Claire Chabot at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Together they raised four children. He worked at Guilford Industries for 32 years, retiring in 1983. Nelson worked hard to provide for his family. He traveled to work for years with his friend Arthur Holt. He was a communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Nelson loved cars and took great pride in each one he owned. He also enjoyed classic country music and times spent fishing with his brother Nazier on Wilson Pond in Greenville. He loved his family and was always concerned about their well-being. He is survived by his loving wife, Rita, of Dexter; 3 sons, Robert Clukey, Raymond and wife Diane Clukey all of Dexter, and Kenneth Clukey of Dexter and St. Albans; daughter, Katherine and husband Alan Tibbetts of Sidney; brother, Galen and wife Marjorie Clukey of Dexter; sister, Winnifred Daigle of Dexter; 4 grandchildren, Sarah and husband Mark Cooper, Scott Clukey and fiancée Rachel Meyers, all of Dexter, Heidi Tibbetts and Brian Tibbetts, both of Sidney; several nieces and nephews; 3 sisters-in-law, Florence Gould, Jeanette Clukey, and Helen Clukey, all of Dexter. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 3 brothers, Angus, Fernald, and Nazier Clukey; 3 sisters, Joyce and Lillian Clukey and Sylvia Payne; and his only great grandson, Griffin Scott Clukey. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Lodato, visiting nurse Brenda Clarke, Mayo Regional Hospital, Dexter Health Care, Eastern Area Agency on Aging, and Home Care of Maine for years of support and care. A special thank-you to his niece and caregiver Theresa Parsons for years of care, compassion, and patience, and to a special sister-in-law Florence Gould for constant love and support. All of you enabled Nelson to live at home with his family for as long as possible. Friends may call 6 to 8 P.M. Monday, April 10th at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. Tuesday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. Fr. James Robichaud officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
