Helen Veth Parsons DEXTER - Helen Veth Parsons, age 95, died peacefully early Thursday morning. Helen was born in Bar Harbor, October 20, 1910 to Ernest and Carrie (Tabbutt) Palmer. She attended Emerson College in Boston, MA and received a Master's Degree from University Maine at Orono. Helen worked for many years as a linotype operator for the Dexter Gazette and as a part-time reporter for various regional newspapers. Later, as a school English teacher, she devoted her time to the young adults of Nokomis High School. Retirement allowed Helen to become more active in many clubs, organizations and initiatives in Dexter, including: Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Past Noble Grand in Rebeccas, founder of the Jr. Literary Club, Past President of Dexter Women’s Literary Club, Member of the Sunshine Club, Member of the Plummer Board, and was involved in Dexter Public Health and the Dexter Historical Society. Helen was predeceased by her half-bother Lowell Palmer, her husband Henry W. Parsons, and her son W. Bruce Parsons, Sr. She is survived by her daughter Janet Parsons of Portland and four grandchildren of Bruce and Carol Parsons: Scott A. Parsons of Freeport, Jeffrey B. Parsons of Gray, William B. Parsons, Jr. of Toronto, PO, Canada, and Elizabeth C. A. Parsons of Bristol, UK; and by three great-grandchildren Katherine, Samuel and Benjamin. Memorial services will be held at the First Universalist Church of Dexter on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 2:00 PM, with burial in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
