Obituary	W. BRUCE PARSONS SR. JAY - William Bruce Parsons Sr., 57, died Tuesday, December 16, 1997, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born September 30, 1940, in Dexter, the son of Henry and Helen (Palmer) Parsons. He graduated from Dexter High School in 1958. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1965, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre and Speech; and in 1972, he received a Masters Degree in Education Administration from UMO. Bruce was married December 28, 964, in Bingham, to Carol N. Atwood. He taught elementary education for five years at various schools. From 1970 to 1984, he was an elementary school principal for several school districts and for the past 14 years, he had been superintendent of schools, first at Smyrna Mills and currently for the schools in the town of Jay. He was a member of the Jay-Livermore Falls Rotary Club, the American Association of School Administrators, and the Maine Superintendents Association. Bruce was a very loving husband and father, and a dedicated educator. He is survived by his wife, Carol Atwood Parsons of Jay; four children, Scott Alan Parsons and his wife, Denise of Hagerstown, MD, Jeffrey Bruce Parsons and his wife, Rachel of South Portland, William Bruce Parsons Jr. and Elizabeth Carol Anne Parsons, both of Jay; two grandchildren, Bradley and Katherine of Hagerstown, MD; his mother Helen V. Parsons of Dexter; and a sister, Janet Parsons of Portland. A memorial service was held December 19, 1997 at the First Congregational Church on Meadow Street in Bingham. In accordance with Bruce's wishes, in lieu of flowers, his family asks that those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the National Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Ave., Suite 203, Evanston, IL 60202- 1375, Arrangements by Giberson Funeral Home, River Street, Bingham.
