Obituary
DOCTORS SAY BLOOD GIFT NO BEARING ON DYER'S DEATH Bernard J. Dyer, 48, collapsed and died suddenly Wednesday evening at Bangor. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 9 a. m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Dexter. Dyer died of a heart attack, according to the findings of the Penobscot County Medical Examiner, Dr. Robert J. Hughes of Bangor. Dyer had given blood at the E M G H in the name of Mrs. Arthur Brown, wife of a fellow employee at Bailey Motors, and while Brown went to see his wife, had gone with Eldin Gould and Jere Dyer, his son, to a restaurant about a mile and a half from the hospital. There he was taken sick and Gould and young Dyer took him back to the hospital. According to Dr. Hughes, he died in the last moments of the ride back. Dr. Hughes, when asked, said the donation of blood had no relation to the death whatsoever. Dr. Howard J. LaBarge, who has been Dyer's physician for the past five years, also said he felt the blood donation had no connection with the death. Dr. LaBarge said nothing in Dyer's general condition would have led him to advise Dyer against giving blood, if he had been asked. Dyer was born in Dexter on Dec. 27, 1907, son of the late Harry and Myra (Groleau) Dyer, and received his education in the local schools. He was a member of St. Anne's Church and the Dexter Fire Dept. and was employed at Bailey Motors. He is survived by his wife, Geneva Pooler Dyer, one son, Jere of Dexter, one brother, Gerald of Dexter, four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Desveau (Imogene) of Wheaton, Ill., Mrs. Bernard Clukey (Corinne) of Dexter, Miss Kathleen Dyer, Hartford, Conn., and Miss Floreda Dyer of Dexter; and nieces and nephews.
