Obituary
Death of Scott O. Jose Scott Oringe Jose was born in Dexter, April 27, 1841, the youngest son of Moses W. and Zibba Howard Jose. When a young man he bought the farm on the Corinna road, near the home of his parents, where he has spent a long and useful life. He married, November 27, 1873, Martha E. Curtis who died July 23, 1896. Three children were born to them; Florence, who died at the age of one year; Flossie, now Mrs. J. W. Hoyt, who has been her father's housekeeper since the death of her mother, and Isabel, who died at the age of sixteen. Mr. Jose was a member of the Methodist church and a constant attendant as long as his health permitted. Even after advancing age kept him at home his interest in the affairs of the church was strong. He was a member of Dexter Grange, P. of H. No. 155, and always maintained a lively interest in the work of the local grange and of all other branches of the Order. A keen observer and an inveterate reader, Mr. Jose kept himself informed on a wide variety of subjects, from the doings of his neighborhood to world politics. He subscribed to numerous farm papers which he perused thoroughly. He was well posted on all agricultural subjects. This abundance of information, together with his keen sense of humor, made him a most delightful companion and one who will be much missed in his circle of friends. About two weeks before his death he took cold which developed into bronchitis,. His daughter and her husband did everything possible to relieve his suffering and make him comfortable but his heart, weak before, was unable to endure the strain and he passed away, January 30. Funeral services were held at his late residence at 1.30 P. M. February 2, Rev. D. P. Pelley officiating. Two appropriate solos were sung by Everett E. Robinson. The bearers were Ernest Libby, Melvin Seavey, Charles Spooner and Willis Nichols. Mr. Jose is survived by one sister, Mrs. C. G. Wing, the last and youngest of a family of seven children; by his daughter, Mrs. Hoyt; two nieces, Miss Frances E. Jose and Mrs. Ethel J. True of Dexter, and by several cousins.
