Obituary
William A. Keyte The many friends in this town of William A. Keyte were saddened Friday to learn of his death which occurred in the forenoon in the Eastern Maine General hospital, Bangor, where he has been a patient for many months fighting against disease which grew out of his participation in the World war. The deceased, who was about 30 years of age, was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Keyte of Pleasant street and was born in this town, where he attended the public schools, and later took a course of study at the University of Maine. He was a member of Co. A, Second Infantry of this town, but when the company was called for Mexican border service he was unable to go to Texas because of physical reasons. Soon after this country entered the European conflict he enlisted in the 56th Pioneer Infantry, which was formed in Maine, and with this outfit went overseas. Following the signing of the armistice he remained in the service and served for many months with the Army of Occupation in Germany, being a first sergeant of the company in which he served. After his return home his health began to fail and in spite of all that skill and care could do he has hovered between life and death at the Bangor hospital for several months. The deceased was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also a member of Edward J. Poulliot Post, American Legion of this town. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Keyte, he is survived by two brothers, Harold Keyte of Brunswick, Frederick Keyte of this town, and three sisters, Mrs. Geo. P. Shea, Evelyn and Arline, of this town. Funeral services were held Monday morning from St. Ann's Catholic church, Fr. Timothy C. Maney officiating. The services were largely attended by friends of the deceased. The remains were escorted from the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Keyte, to the church by a large detail from Edward J. Poulliot Post. The pall bearers were Percy A. Hasty, Millard G. Otto, Edwin C. Call, Matthias Mountain, Simeon Clukey and Vance Dyer. The ushers at the church were George Vigue, Arthur Trundy and Adolph Dyer. There was a great profusion of floral offerings from family, friends, former employers of the deceased and college friends at the University of Maine. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Ladd of Dover-Foxcroft, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gibbons of Brewer, Miss Myra Hodgkins of Gardiner and Misses Margaret and Charlotte Griffin of Bangor. The remains were placed in the receiving tomb at Mount Pleasant cemetery to be interred in the spring with military honors.
