Obituary	LAWRENCE J. "JOE" BOLDUC DEXTER—Lawrence J. “Joe” Bolduc, 83, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died January 28, 2006, surrounded by his children at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Scarborough. He was born July 17, 1922 at Dexter, a son of Joseph and Mariette (Higgins) Bolduc. He was educated in the Dexter schools and graduated from N. H. Fay High School in 1940. Joe was a United States Navy veteran who served in the Philippines on a PT boat in World War II. He was employed by the Dexter school system for 27 years. Joe took great pride in keeping “his school” the cleanest and shiniest in the area. There was no job too small or big for him to perform. Many students over the years eagerly stayed after school to help Joe perform his duties. As a thank you for helping him he would take them fishing when he had spare time. Many of these (now adults) and have come to visit him over the years. This has given him much pleasure. Sports of all kinds were an integral part of Joe’s life and that of his family. From an early age he and his brother Leo were well known for their baseball prowess. Each took great pride in cheering each other on. Joe played ball until the age of 37 at the positions of pitcher and first base. He was proud to say that he tried out for the Boston Braves. Joe coached Little League teams in Dexter for years. His son David was a pitcher and outfielder on the Dumbarton team. Joe was a long-time umpire. He umpired Little League, Babe Ruth, High School and semi-pro baseball. He also umpired Middle School and High School softball. Another source of great sports pride was his candlepin bowling expertise. He never bragged about it, but he was one of the very best in Maine for many years. He bowled with the likes of Charles Milan of Brewer, another of Maine’s best along with local men like Lane Mountain, Del Higgins, Charlie Seavey, and Lotto Clukey. Following the graduation of his four children from high school, Joe continued to be an integral part of the sports program. He could be seen running the clock for all sporting events. Flower gardening was a source of happiness for both Joe and his wife Nina. Many hours were spent preparing the flower beds and boxes and of course many hours “talking” to the flowers so they would grow. Even after Nina had passed, Joe worked faithfully every season making the area both in front and back of the house look attractive. Joe was totally devoted to his wife Nina. The fact is well known by family members that Joe and Nina never spent a night apart for the 55 years of their marriage. When Nina was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease, Joe took care of her at home for the entire time. With the help of devoted visiting nurses and his children she was tenderly cared for 24 hours a day for 7 years. He is survived by 3 daughters, Jean Brennan and husband Dennis of Sanford, Gail Lawrence of Brunswick, and Cindy Collins of Portland; a son, David Bolduc and wife Beverly of Wolfeboro, NH; a sister, Flora Sands and husband Albert of Dover-Foxcroft; 8 grandchildren, Ian, Mimi, and Abbi of NH, Amy and husband Kevin of Cumberland, Kathleen of Brunswick, Angela of Portland, and Colleen and Kevin of Sanford. Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 pm Thursday, February 2nd at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Dexter with the Rev. Fr. James Robichaud officiating. Spring burial will be in the Mt.
