Obituary	Mrs. Ann E. Stockbridge Ann E. Copeland was born in Dexter, Maine, Nov. 25, 1825, the daughter of Samuel and Phoebe (Jumper) Copeland. She was educated in the public schools and was married June l, 1845, to David Stockbridge. Soon after their marriage they went into the hotel business. They kept hotel in East Corinth, Kenduskeag, and Lincoln, Maine. They were genial hosts and their hostelry became very popular. In 1885 they returned to Dexter to make their home. They lived on Upper Main St., on the place now owned by F. J. Carsley. Here Mr. Stockbridge died In 1889. Mrs. Stockbridge lived alone for over 20 years caring for her flowers, of which she was passionately fond, and receiving her many friends with a gentle, gracious courtesy which was characteristic of her nature. The last few years she has boarded and has been tenderly cared for. After a short illness she fell asleep at the home of Mrs. David Russell, Feb. 24. Funeral services were held at the Universalist church, Wednesday, her pastor officiating. The services were attended by many of the church people and friends. The quartet of the church rendered appropriate selections. Many beautiful flowers covered and surrounded the casket, testifying to the esteem in which she was held. She was a member of the Universalist church and loved it with a deep devotion, being in attendance at its services as long as she was able. She as of a genial, happy disposition, hopeful and optimistic. A good woman who was always thoughtful of others and sought to live the faith she professed. The leaves two nieces, Mrs. Stevens of Corinna and Mrs. Edes of Guilford and Mrs. W. H. Curtis of this town, a niece of her husband, to mourn their loss.
