Obituary
George Bradbury True George Bradbury True, a well-known citizen of Dexter, was found dead in his room last Friday noon. Mr. True appeared to be in usual health Thursday. He ate dinner and supper with more than usual relish, and retired at an early hour. His failure to appear Friday morning caused the family no uneasiness, since he often, after a wakeful night, slept during the forenoon. At noon, when his granddaughter called him, he made no response. A few moments later Mrs. True entered his room and found that he had passed away. Dr. Thatcher was at once given word and decided that he had died of heart disease, and that death had occurred during the night. Mr. True was born in Sangerville, Me., Nov. 17, 1839, the only son of Bradbury and Mary Safford True. Mrs. Albion K. Jackson of Monson, Me., one of his three sisters, survives him Mr. True was married Feb. 21, 1867, to Mrs. Caroline Maxim Bailey. Idella May, wife of Nathan Daggett of Dexter, is Mr. and Mrs. True's only child. Mr. True had resided in Dexter more than forty years. At one time he was in the grocery business here. Subsequently he was employed in several different markets. He also traveled for a time as salesman for a wholesale firm in South Paris. He enlisted in the first year of the Civil war, served several months, and was then honorably discharged on account of serious disability resulting from severe sickness. Though his term of service as a soldier was brief, it made a permanent impression upon him. To the last he maintained intense interest in everything pertaining to the war and the Grand Army of the Republic. Mr. True was for many years a member of the Penobscot lodge Free and Accepted Masons. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. A. Corey, were held at his late residence Sunday, at 12,30 p.m. Membrs of the H. F. Safford post, G. A. R., were present, Penobscot lodge F. & A. M., attended in a body concluding the funeral obsequies with the dignified and impressive service of their order. Thus has passed from our midst, at the age of 68 years, a man of kindly heart and generous impulse.
