Obituary
Mrs. Sophia M. Redus was the daughter of Dea. and Mrs. A. F. Mower and was born in Dexter, Jan.19, 1851. At fifteen years of age she went to live with an uncle in Newberry, S. C,, where she remained until last Dec., when she went to Philadelphia, seeking health. At the Memorial Service held in the church of which she was a member, one said of her, she had worn herself out here in service with us, with the people of this community, and she wanted rest, wanted to be restored to health. We all expected she would return to us in health. She found rest on the 22nd day of Dec. she found rest when God took her to himself, she found rest in Heaven where there was joy in the presence of her Saviour Jesus Christ. Mrs. Redus loved her church and was a very generous contributor to its support. She was a whole-hearted Christian worker, always at her post ready for service. She loved the Sunday school and labored faithfully for its interest, and at the Memorial Serivice mentioned above, they passed resolutions of appreciation of her in all departments of church work. Pastor, superintendents, teachers, all bore testimony to her noble Christian character, her faithfulness to duty, her readiness for every good word and work, which made her worthy of a place among those women whom the Bible characterizes fellow helpers to the truth. She was so earnest, so loyal, so constant in her attendance, that she was an inspiration to all those who worked with her. She also had a large class of children to whom she gave temperance instruction. Verily, it may be said of her, She hath done what she could. The children have lost a friend, the church has lost a friend, the pastor has lost a friend, and we all have lost a friend here as well as there. How much we shall miss her home coming. She will be missed at he parents home on her yearly vacation, by all her near and dear friends, brothers and sisters, uncle and aunt, and the connections whom she has met for the past few years at the Mower reunion, and her old friends of childhood days. And we are glad her light shined so bright on earth, And shines more bright in Heaven, Gods love never groweth dim, All of goodness that you know, All your loving comes from Him. You say, She has gone to Jeath; Very tenderly, God saith, Better so, I make her mine, And my love exceedeth thine.
