Obituary
Our people were deeply pained Saturday to learn of the death by typhoid fever of Miss Grace M. Smart of this place, which occurred at Bangor on Friday. We referred to her serious illness in our last issue, but her friends in town were sanguine of her ultimate recovery. Her disease however took a new turn with the sad result above stated. Miss Smart was the daughter of Mr. A. K. P. Smart of this village, and leaves her father and two brothers, George and Everett, to mourn her loss so early in her bright and happy life. The remains were brought to Dexter Saturday and the funeral services occurred at her home on Sunday, Rev. S. C. Fletcher officiating. The Bangor Commercial of the date June 15th contains the following: Miss Grace M. Smart, of Dexter, who has been one of the compositors in the Whig office for the past three years, died yesterday of typhoid fever after an illness of three weeks. She was a young lady who was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her, having charming matters and the happy facility of always being agreeable. She came here exactly three years ago yesterday, and had made all her acquaintances in Bangor her loyal friends. Her death seems particularly sad and is a severe blow to her large circle of friends. Miss Smart was a member of the Dexter Baptist church, and of the Society of Christian Endeavor of the First Baptist church in Bangor. Miss Smart was employed in the GAZETTE office several years as a compositor.
