Obituary
Mrs. Mae Watson --- Lane. The solicitude of her relatives and many friends concerning the health of Mrs. Charles S. Lane has been most suddenly and sadly terminated by her death, which occurred at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Watson, of this town, on Sunday, Aug. 25th. Her age was twenty-two years, three months and fifteen days. She was the wife of Mr. Charles S. Lane, of the GAZETTE, their marriage having taken place May 21st, 1889. Mrs. Lane had been in delicate health for several weeks, though none apprehended the dread possibility of death. Last week her improvement and ultimate recovery seemed assured, and on the day of her death her restoration to her normal health appeared close at hand as evinced by brightening spirits and increasing strength. However, just before the hour of noon she sank to rest so softly and peacefully that her attendants scarcely noted the transition. It is when the pen comes to record the grace of character and virtue of the soul that a realization of utter impotence oppresses the writer. By her associates in all walks of life she was known only to be loved, and each one of us cherishes some tender memory of the young friend who has left us. Our village mourns her as one of the brightest and best in our midst, and the grief that her death has caused is sincere and widespread. The bereaved husband and family have the sympathy of us all, a sympathy the tongue or pen can only mock. The funeral occurred this forenoon from the home of Mrs. Lane's parents. Rev. A. G. Hill, of Dover, officiated. The concourse of friends was large and testified to the universal respect in which the deceased was held.
