Obituary
Recently this paper contained a short notice of the death of Mrs. Phebe T. Freeman. Mrs. Freeman, nee Brown was born in Swanville, Me. Thence after a few years in Dixmont and Bangor she came to Dexter where she has lived for the last eighteen years. This time has been spent at the Exchange and with her daughter Mrs. Wilson P. Hamilton. She was twice married. Her first husband James Downs, died about four years after marriage leaving her with two little boys. Her second husband Paul Freeman, died several years ago leaving her with six children. Mrs. Freeman with these eight took up the work of life, and by her own efforts brought them up to respectable manhood and womanhood. Such a work is heroic. About three years ago she went to Boston to spend a few months at her oldest son's who is in business there. While there she became connected with the Douglass St. Baptist church, of which she continued a member till her death. A few weeks ago she returned to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton where she received all that loving hearts and loving hands could give. One of her sons could not be reached by telegraph the other children came to her burial. And looking on those sons and daughters, their companions and children, we saw the noble life work of the true Christian mother, S. C. F.
