Obituary
Mr. Azor Baker, who died Sunday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. J. Fogg, was in every respect a man to be noted and remembered. He was a man of rare intelligence and for the greater part of his life was a teacher. Almost the first of the northern teachers sent south to educate the negroes, he faithfully and resolutely discharged the duties of a responsible and trying position. His intelligence, urbanity and grace of mind and character won to him many friends in Dexter and this kindly old gentleman has been sincerely mourned by our people. During the latter part of his life he has lived with Mr. and Mrs. Fogg. He and his family were noted for their ability and intelligence. His brothers were leading educators in Texas and one was the first mayor of the city of Austin. Besides Mrs. Fogg Mr. Baker leaves one daughter, Miss Baker, who resides with her sister in this village. The funeral occurred yesterday. Mr. Baker was aged 80 years and 6 months.
