Obituary
JOSEPH C. CROSSLAND. There was sorrow among our young people last Friday when the death of Joe Crossland was reported. For many days he had been growing weaker, yet his relatives clung to the hope that he might rise from his bed of suffering. When his death came it was as a great shock. Joe was an admirable boy, full of healthy spirits, pure good-fellowship and all the qualities that make a boy loved by his young associates, and truly respected by his elders. When one of these pure and happy-hearted boys goes down to death just as the dawn of t useful and honorable manhood brightens upon him, the community that loved and respected him, feels inexpressibly saddened. Joseph was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Crossland of No. Dexter. For a short time he had been employed in the Woolen Mill at that place, and was highly esteemed by his employers for his industry and excellent character. When illness seized him he came to Dexter to receive treatment at the hospital. However, skillful treatment failed to have effect, and death came to him on Friday. His age was 19 years, 5 months and 8 days. The funeral occurred Sunday. Rev. S. C. Fletcher officiated, and spoke most feelingly of the young man's excellent qualities. The floral offerings were beautiful in the extreme.
