Obituary
Our people were much surprised and pained on Saturday morning to learn that Mr. L. D. Edgerly, one of our merchants for many years and a highly respected citizen, had passed away. He was as well as usual up to within a few hours of his death which occurred about one o'clock Saturday morning. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock in the Universalist church, Rev. Andrew Andrews of Garland conducting the religious services. The funeral was conducted by Penobscot Lodge, F. & A. M., the deceased being a member of that order and also of the Eastern Star, which was represented. Quite a large Masonic delegation was in attendance. The floral offerings were very handsome. All the stores were closed during the funeral exercises. The interment was in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Among the relatives present were two brothers, C. S. Edgerly and D. J. Edgerly and wife, and a nephew, Elwood Edgerly, all of Dover; Frank Nute of Dexter, a nephew; Mrs. Ann Knight, a sister of Mrs. Edgerly, and her son, and Edward Greeley and wife all of Garland. The deceased left a wife and one son, Charles P., who have the sympathy of our people in their affliction. Mr. Edgerly was born in Sangerville 65 years ago, coming to this village from that town. He had been engaged in the fruit, confectionery and bakery business here for about thirteen years and was always known as an honorable and upright citizen.
