Auto Accident Injuries Fatal To Dexter Youth Kenneth Merchant, Jr., 15, of Dexter, one of three occupants of an automobile which overturned on the Garland road at Dexter late Thursday night died about 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning at the Eastern Maine General hospital. He suffered severe head injuries. According to Chief of Police Har- old B. Knox of Dexter, young Mer- chant was the driver of a car con- taining Anthony Daigle, 17, and Bernard Curtis, 17, both of Dexter, which failed to negotiate a curve, turned over twice, and came to rest in the middle of the highway, the roof of the vehicle being torn off. Merchant was thrown 30 feet from the scene of the wreckage while Daigle and Curtis were found in a dazed condition, according to Chief Knox. All three were taken to the Plum- mer Memorial hospital and Mer- hant, who failed to regain con- sciousness, was transferred to the Bangor hospital. Daigle, who suffered concussion and possible serious neck injuries, according to the attending physi- tian, Dr. H. Lewis Taylor of Dexter, is being held at the Plummer Me- morial hospital for further observa- tion, it was stated last night. Cur- tis, who was less severely injured, was taken to the home of his grand- mother, Mrs. Roy York, after treat- ment at the Dexter hospital. Merchant was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Merchant of Dexter. He would have entered the eighth grade in the Dexter public schools in the fall. He was deeply interested in mechanics and was an aviation enthusiast, having done some flying with local pilots. Surviving besides his parents are sister, Cathleen, of Fairfield and half brother, Clifford Stevens of Dexer. Funeral services will be held at the residence in Dexter Sunday af- ternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Morely Durost, pastor of the Dex- ter First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cem- etery at Dexter.
