Obituary
Fred A. Abbott DEXTER, June 14-Funeral services for the late Fred Amos Abbott were held at the First Universalist church at 2 O'clock Sunday afternoon and were largely attended by relatives and the many friends of the deceased. The Rev. Gordon Chilson Reardon officiating. The active bearers were, H. J.Atwood, Maynard Bessey, Omar Carr, Richard Paro, Harry Wilkins and C. H. Ansell. Horiorary bearer were B. L. Call, Nathan Daggett, H. E. Hale, Rufus Tillson, J. P. Rand, A. H. Bentley, Arthur Brown, and P. S. Plouff. Among the out of town people here for the services were, Cyrus Springall of Malden, Mass.; Mrs. Addie Redman and Mr. and Mrs. Loris Baxter of Burnham; W.S. Redman of Boston; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Redman, Bangor; Henry Colbath of Pottstown, Pa.; Clement Deering, and William,Striar of Boston; Lawrence Stein of New York; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Cummings of Skowhegan. Mr. Abbott died suddenly at his home on Pleasant street Friday morning at 5:30 o'clock and his passing came as a shock to the entire community. A prominent business man and respected citizen of the town, his loss will be keenly felt in business and social circles. The son of Mrs. Ella Abbott and the late Walter Abbott, he attended Dexter high school, Worcester academy, and Lowell Textile school, where he was a member of Phi Psi fraternity. He enlisted in the Navy in World War I and was sent to Harvard, where he graduated and was commissioned as an ensign. At the close of the war he returned to Amos Abbott company, of which he was president at the time of his death. Due to failing health, he has spent the past eight winters in Florida. He was a member of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M., Royal Arch chapter, DeMolay commandery in Skowhegan, and Kora Temple Shrine in Lewiston. He was also a member of the First Universalist church in Dexter, the Dexter club, and a trustee of the Abbott Memorial library. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Evlangeline Abbott, three children, Pvt., George Amos Abbott of the University of Chicago, Miss Imogene Ella Abbott, a student at Wellesley college,and Fred Richard Abbott of Dexter; his mother, Mrs. Ella Abbott, and a sister Mrs. Juan Mendoza of Dexter.
