Charles R. Martin Dexter Resident Noted as Grower of Tuber Unit Potatoes (special to The Bangor Daily News) DEXTER, Oct. 3-Charles R. Martin, extensive grower of tuber unit potatoes, and a former mem- ber of the State Legislature, oc- curred Friday night at his home on Spring street, after a few months' illness. Mr. Martin was born in Madelin, N. Y., and had been a resident ef Dexter for 50 years, at one time an employee of the Dumbarton Woole Company. He began as a tuber unit potato grower with his son, Stanley Martin in 1922, raising po- tatoes, on a large scale and soon found themselves one of the largest growers in the world of their prod- uct. Mr. Martin served as a member of the board of selectmen for three years, the Legislature two years. He was a member of the Dexter Grange, Plymouth lodge of Odd Fellows, and a valued member of the Townsend club. He is survived by his wife, Frankie Stuart Martin; a daughter, Mrs. Gladys McCormick of Lynn, Mass., and a son, Stanley Martin of Dexter; a sister, Mrs. Mary Merrill, and two brothers, E. H. Martin and Will Martin, all of Dexter. The funeral services will be held at the home Monday afternoon at two o'clock.
