Obituary
Walter G. Abbott. Our people were greatly shocked and grieved last Thursday evening to learn that Walter G. Abbott died suddenly while out rowing on the lake. He was alone in the boat but was seen by those near by to rise up and then fall backward into the boat. They went to his aid as soon as possible but when he was reached he was past all aid. The sad news was soon known on our streets and the remains were conveyed to his late home. He was the only son of Geo. A. and Lavinia S. Abbott and since his father's death had taken an active part in the management of the Amos Abbott Co. and was president at the time of his death. He was born in Dexter 44 years ago and was educated in our public schools and the Boston Institute of Technology. He was courteous, genial gentleman and was most highly regarded by all. He was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity, also of the Knights of Pythias and the Dexter Club. He leaves a wife, two children, Fred Amos and Imogene, and a married sister, Mrs. Jennie Abbott Shaw of Ontario, besides many other relatives. The funeral services were held at the residence Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. W. L. Gould officiating. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful, comprising a large crescent and star (mounted) from the Dexter club; broken column, Messrs. Lattimer, Fred Barker and Charles Towle; cross and crown, Knights Templars; triangle, Sir Bedivere lodge; square and compass, Penobscot lodge; wreath, Dr. and Mrs. T. J. Springall; crescent on easel, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Springall; wreath, Improved Order of Red Men; ivy wreath with roses, Arthur Abbott and family; large bouquet of roses, Mrs. Job Abbott and daughter; large bouquets of carnations, from C. P. McCrillis and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Springall, Mr. and Mrs. John Eldridge and many others. The interment was made in Mount Pleasant cemetery and the Bearers were Messrs. Carr and Judkins representing the Masons, C. H. Wyman and Dr. Bumps from Dexter, Dr. Haines and Dr. Weymouth of the Knights of Pythias.
