HOWARD LESLIE DAVIS SR. DEXTER - Howard Leslie Davis Sr., 84, died Nov. 17, at his home, in Dexter after a brief illness. He was born July 8, 1912 in Dexter, son of Leslie W. and Winnie (Russell) Davis. He graduated from NH.Fay High School, Class of 1931. On Sept. 15, 1940, he married the former Avis N. Titcomb, who predeceased him in 1989. He served in a special War time guard force at Fay Scott during WW11. In 1955, he and his wife founded the Titcomb-Davis clothing store which they operated until their retirement in 1975. He was a member of New York Securities Exchange and was a real estate broker for many years. He was very active in local affairs and was a member of the Board of Accessors for the Town of Dexter and was a member of the Board f Appeals. He was a Deputy Sheriff in Penobscot County and an honorary Deputy Sheriff in Somerset County. He was a member of the Dexter Historical Society, a 50 year member of the Penobscot Masonic Lodge #39, the Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor, and was a long time member of the IOOF and the OES. He was a lifetime member of the Dexter United Methodist Church. He was an Avid bee keeper and his house was often filled with the neighborhood kids who affectionately knew him as Grampa. For many years he served as a Notary Public, marrying many couples in the Town of Dexter. Survivors include sons and their wives, Howard L. and Claudia (Gustin) Davis Jr., Dexter and Paul T. and Patricia (Andrews) Davis, Sangerville, grandchildren Heidi, Skip,wStewart, Todd, Alan and Kevin and seven great-grand children. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter, with burial in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
