Obituary
Levi W. Katen Levi W. Katen of Ripley, died at the home of his son, Willard W. Katen, in East Dexter, Jan. 3d, after a long illness, aged 72 years, 4 months, and 14 days. Mr. Katen was born in East Corinth and at 4 years of age moved to Corinna where his boyhood and youth were spent. After reaching manhood he was employed in mills in different places in the manufactory of shingles, in which business he was very competent. Later in life he moved to Ripley and built a house and had a few acres of land. They remained there until poor health made it necessary for them to be with someone to care for them, so they went to their son's, Willard Katen, in East Dexter, where he was kindly cared for till the end came. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Charles Katen of Newport, Willard Katen of Dexter, and two daughters, Mrs. D. G. French of Brewer and Mrs. Ira Page of Skowhegan, also one brother and sister. One son, Harry Katen, was killed on the R. R. in Pittsfield a little more than a year ago. Mr. Katen was a hard working man and as far as we know led an upright life among his fellow-men. The funeral took place at the home of his son, Willard, on Friday last, attended by the Rev. B. G. Seaboyer of the Methodist church, Dexter. The remains were placed in Mt. Pleasant cemetery tomb.
